Merishaw School, a private institution in Kajiado County, emerged as the top performer in the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams with a mean score of 10.5686, surpassing traditional national schools. Known for its focus on boy child empowerment, Merishaw presented 51 candidates, with seven scoring straight As and 100% securing university admission.
Despite charging fees six times higher than national schools, the school’s success highlights a shift in academic dominance, with metropolitan counties like Nairobi, Kiambu, Kajiado, and Nandi occupying most top spots. Alliance High School (Kiambu) and Kapsabet Boys (Nandi) followed in second and third places, respectively, while national schools like Kenya High and Starehe Boys rounded out the top five.
